Annual Blogging is the New Fad.

Here I am again... almost a full year later. I guess my theme is blogging once per year. That's cool.

Since last May we have moved to California thanks to my super-awesome job! The weather here in NorCal is nice and NO SNOW! Hallelujah! Praise lord baby jesus!

On the downside, everything is super expensive and we downgraded to a lovely 700 square foot apartment. Not winning.

The wedding is coming up in ohhhh 32 days. Woo! We are so excited and cannot wait to relax on the beach as husband and wife :-D We have some wonderful family and friends making the trip to Mexico to celebrate. We're feeling very happy and lucky.

Our precious baby, Zoe, is doing great and is also loving the snow-free climate. She's the prom queen of this neighborhood, just as she was in Omaha. Such a little princess.

That sums it up... in a very tiny nutshell.

Until next year?

Blog much?

Well, I pretty much forgot that I had a Blog.

Anyway, it's been almost a year since I last posted! Sad to say it's been pretty uneventful. Oh wait... I did get engaged which is GREAT! We're planning a destination wedding in Mexico which will be completely relaxing and AWESOME!

My first winter in Omaha was the worst winter ever. We had more than a foot of snow on the ground for something like 85 days. It was awful and colder than hell. So, I spent the winter hibernating in a deep depression and ate a lot of mac & cheese.

Speaking of mac & cheese... no more of that for me unless it's soy cheese! I've decided to start eating vegan and am on my 3rd or 4th week... I can't really remember. Anyway, it's going great and I feel really great. I just can't be part of the mistreatment of animals anymore and I'll leave it at that.

I'm excited for our annual summer vacation coming up soon! Hopefully this year won't be as traumatic as last, and you know what I mean if you read my last post. I just shuddered in fear.

My worst fears- followed me on vacation.

Three very disturbing things happened while on vacation in WY w/ my family. First, as many of you know I am terrified of ALL insects... butterflies, lady bugs, ants, flies, and all of the reeeeally scary ones too. It's a pretty bad fear, I've needed professional therapy for a while now.

First disturbing instance- while on our last day of fishing at Sibley Lake, I was actually sitting on the ground in no fear of insects (after inspecting the ground, trees, and air for bugs). It was a big step for me. As I got up I caught a glimpse of something huge and black and scary... it was a long-horn beetle. Ummm, these are huge, have gigantor antennae AND they fly! They also cling to you. I won't go into the scene I made w/ my screeches and running around, but my Uncle said I almost fell into the lake. So, I cried a bit and shook uncontrollably. I was sure I was free of beetle attacks as long as I wasn't sitting. About 10 minutes later I looked down and another one was on my shin!!! Okay, now I was reeeeally crying and demanded to go back to the truck so I could sit in it and be free of nature. On the walk back to the truck with everyone else, ANOTHER one came swooping through the air and tried to kill me. I swear.

Second disturbing instance- the last night at my grandma's and everyone else had left except me and my parents and uncle. I was sleeping alone in the living room (which I hate and am always scared). I was awaken by a noise... a banging noise... like tupperware clanging together. So, I immediately was sure that an animal was in the kitchen. I took Zoe and we hid in the bathroom for a few minutes- mainly because I needed to use the bathroom and didn't want Zoe to get eaten by the animal in the kitchen. I came out making a lot of noise and turning on lights so it would know I meant business. I was pretty sure it was a mouse and also pretty sure that if I fell asleep it would run across my face and laugh while doing so. Eventually my eyes shut and it was morning. I told my mom what I had heard in the middle of the night and she believed me. Then I told my grandma and she was like, "well, was it the deep freeze? was it the light to the herb garden? was it the tv? sorry, honey i don't know what to tell ya." She didn't believe I had heard anything, obviously. Skip to an hour later, I open the pantry to get a plastic bag and there it is on the ground in a mouse trap. Aaaand, what I heard was pretty damn accurate, because it was next to a stack of tupperware bowls. The image was frightening and I'm still scared it will run across my face as a mouse ghost.

Third and final and creepiest instance- Now in Rapid City at sis's. Packing up to leave on last morning and Zoe is sniffing at something on the floor, which looked like a gray rock. I go over to see and it was some kind of grotesque insect. Sickest thing I've ever seen. It was about the size of a dime, gray, shiney, and had tons of little wiggling legs. It was on it's back and couldn't move, thank god. Mom and I called my uncle in to determine what it was. He decided it was an engorged tick!!!!!!! Ewwwwwwwww! I am having a hard time writing about his cuz it was soooooooooo disgusting. It had most likely fallen off Bear, sis's dog. So, she called the vet later that day and asked about it. They said it had to of been on the dog for at least 3 weeks for it to have been that big. And brace yourself... once they become that engorged and release... they look for a place to lay eggs. Ughhhhh, I'm getting all itchy. If you've never seen a tick that big, please google it and you'll see that it's the sickest thing in all of the world!

Yeah, I'm pretty traumatized and have been constantly itchy since being tortured by insects and rodents on my vaca. I thought I was making progress over the last few years, but now I'm back to square one. I was thinking about laying out on the deck today, but I'm afraid I'll get attacked by spiders and wasps.

She's the Queen!

Is it possible for a dog to be Prom Queen? If so, Zoe is definitely the Prom Queen of our neighborhood! She's the most popular dog by far!

On every walk someone asks to pet her, little kids, other dog owners, people watering their flowers. And those who don't ask to pet her at least let out an "awwwwwwwwww". We walk about 6 times per day!

She is a hit at the dog park too. We went for the second time yesterday and she went around to every single dog and said hi. Probably 15 dogs. We got many comments that she's a social butterfly! She made especially good friends with a 3 month old german shepherd, they wrestled for about 15 minutes straight. When we left the other dogs followed and said bye!

I've found the answer!

So, since I moved to Omaha I've had some bouts of nausea and some vom'ing. No, I'm not pregnant, but thanks for automatically thinking so. Right before the move I had a SEVERE cold/flu that the effects lasted for a month. My left ear had some fluid in it, but I thought it would go away in time. Well, the fluid is definitely not going away and I've gone ahead and diagnosed myself with Meniere's Disease... I like to self-diagnose myself quite often if you weren't aware.

Ménière's disease is an abnormality of the inner ear causing a host of symptoms, including vertigo or severe dizziness, tinnitus or a roaring sound in the ears, fluctuating hearing loss, and the sensation of pressure or pain in the affected ear. The disorder usually affects only one ear and is a common cause of hearing loss.

It comes and goes and I definitely have ringing and more often the "roaring" sound. I have pain sometimes and when the roaring occurs it also throbs really bad. I guess there is really no cure, but some recommend taking diuretics or antihistamines. I already overdose on allergy meds as it is. Also recommended is a diet of low salt, caffeine, and alcohol. No prob... except for the caffeine. I'll take that one day at a time... or one pot at a time... whatev.

I finally decided on this diagnosis after ruling out pregnancy, gall bladder, stomach flu/virus, food poisening, diabetes, exposure to toxic mold, parasites, incorrect contact prescription, and lyme disease.

Shut up about Michael Jackson!

Ughhhh, I am SO tired of hearing about Michael Jackson!!! Move on everyone... pleeeease!
Yes, he made good music, but it's not like he's still making music and we're missing out on anything. Any death is tragic, but throwing yourself in the street and bawling??? Really?? You didn't even know the man!

Not to mention the alleged molestation(s). I could go on about that, but won't. He is very psychologically disturbed.

Zoe Grace Thomas

Keith and I adopted Zoe from a local animal rescue. We went with our hearts set on a different dachshund named Eimer. He was 8 or 9 and had cataracts in both eyes. Once we were able to meet him we realized he was completely blind. He is such a sweetheart and just loves to be loved! We decided we didn't have the proper resources to care for a blind dog... one being we have a lot of stairs in our house and another that we don't have a fence. We played with Eimer for a long time and then went back in to look at the other doggies. This rescue had just received about 20 weiner dogs, so it was packed!! We saw Zoe in her own little cage with her tail wagging like crazy. She had just been spayed the day before, so she was separated from the other dogs. We took her out and played with her for a while. She was sooooo sweet and such a girl! We started the adoption process for her that day.

I've never been more nervous about anything in my life! I was sure we would not be approved for her... not sure why. Anyway, we first filled out a lengthy and very detailed application that included drivers license numbers and personal references. Next we had to set up a home visit with someone from the rescue. Then the adoption board would be presented with a write-up of our home visit and they would make the decision. This all took only about 5 days total, but I felt like it was months! There were several days that I cried, thinking we would be denied. I went a little overboard! Anyway, after our home visit with Jenny we were to hear back within 24 hours... well, they called not 30 minutes after Jenny left and said we could have her!!! Wow, I was so happy... I of course cried!

Her name at the rescue was Grace. But we decided that Zoe was more fitting, she is a little spunk ball!

We don't know anything about her history, but she is healthy and doesn't have any medical problems that we know of. She was transported to Kansas State when she was found and they took good care of her.

She has already been on two roadtrips, camping, and on a boat!
